How Do You Clean Glass Surfaces? (The Best Way)

Cleaning glass surfaces can be very hard. They usually leave residue or streaks over the glass and make them blurry. That is why you need to be extra careful about using a cleaning agent while cleaning a glass surface.

There are many ways to clean a glass surface. But you need to keep in mind that you have to clean in such a way that will not leave any stain on the glass. You can always buy a glass cleaner from the store and clean the glass surface with it. There are also DIY methods to make glass cleaners.

Being an expert, I will now show you the best way to clean your glass surfaces using different cleaning agents and cleaning methods. Let’s start our practical tasks:

1. Using Vinegar To Clean A Glass Surface:

Using store-bought cleaning agents can be efficient, but these days, everyone prefers to use DIY products, even if it is just for the sake of fun. Vinegar is a product that can be used as a great DIY cleaning agent. For this, some steps are needed to be followed.

If you are planning to clean a surface that is small in space, like a small window or a small door, then you need to follow the steps below:

Make Solution:

You will first need to make a solution by diluting the vinegar with water as vinegar is an acid, so it should not be used directly.

Mix one part of vinegar with 10 parts of warm water and make a solution. You can use a spray bottle for your convenience.

Removing Clouds of Dust From The Surface:

Remove any dust from the surface before cleaning with the solution you just made. You can use any dust cleaner or any broom, or even a vacuum cleaner to do the task at hand.

Wipe Down Using A Soft Cloth:

After you are done dusting off the surface, you now need to take a soft cloth or a lint-free towel. Take the towel or the cloth, dip it into the solution, and clean the surface slowly and smoothly.

If you are using a spray bottle, then generously spray the solution to the surface and wipe it down using the cloth of your preference.

Keeping A Secondary Dry Cleaning Cloth:

You need to keep a secondary cleaning cloth which needs to be dry. After wiping down your surface with the wet solution, you have to wipe it again using a dry cloth to avoid any kind of streaks on the glass surface.

Keeping the glass surface wet can make it blurry. To avoid the above-mentioned problems, there is no alternative to using a dry cloth.

Rinsing The Surface With Water:

You need to rinse your floor with clean and fresh water after cleaning with the vinegar solution. Sometimes even after wiping with a dry cloth, the residue of the vinegar solution remains on the surface which is not suitable for the surface and might cause harm to its texture.

That is why rinsing with clean water afterward is essential for a glass surface.

If you are planning to clean a bigger surface like a bigger window with a vinegar solution, you need to follow the methods below:

  • For more extensive surfaces, you need to dilute the solution with more vinegar in it.
  • You may use a sponge instead of a cloth to dip into the solution and clean the glass surface.
  • Don’t use a dripping wet sponge. Always try to use a damp sponge to avoid any kind of streaks on the glass surface.

2. Using Bleach To Clean Glass Surface:

Bleach can be a great medium of cleaning and a powerful disinfectant. You can use bleach to clean and disinfect your glass surface.

To use bleach, you will need to follow the steps mentioned below:

Prepare The Solution:

Firstly, you will need to prepare your solution. You will need to dilute the bleach by mixing it with water. Mix about a cup of bleach with a bucket of water. Make sure to use warm water for this.

Get Rid Of Dust:

Then, get rid of any kind of dust or specs of dust from your glass surface.

After making the solution, you will need to prepare your surface by dusting off the surface.

To dust off the surface, you will need to clean it with a cloth or a vacuum cleaner. You may also use a broom for it.

Always Use Gloves and Cloth To Clean The Surface:

Thirdly, use a damp cloth to clean the surface. To clean the surface, take a cloth and dip it into the solution. Make sure to wear gloves and save your hands from the solution.

Wring The Cloth and Make It Damp:

The fourth task is to wring the cloth as much as possible after dipping it into the solution. You should never use a thoroughly wet cloth over a glass surface. It leaves a streak over the glass and makes it look blurry.

To avoid such issues, wring your cloth right after dipping it into the solution and clean the surface with it.

Use A Dry Cloth Afterwards And Rinse The Floor:

Like the step followed in the vinegar solution, you need to use a dry cloth and rinse after with clean water after using a bleach solution.

To avoid streaking, I always use a dry cloth or lint-free towel to wipe out any remaining parts of the solution. Afterward, rinsing is also crucial.

  1. Try using different sizes of tools and different shapes of tools according to the shape of the surface you are about to clean.
